15 Point Typical Testing Process

1. Customer enquiry is received outlining the customer’s testing needs

2. Consultation with the customer takes place to propose suitable tests, discuss the details of these tests and any special instructions, and to answer any additional questions about the service

3. Sample collection is arranged by MTT via courier

4. Signed purchase order form is received from the customer listing the details of the order, including specific technical directions where necessary

5. Sample arrives at the laboratory and is conveyed to the relevant department(s) of the testing facility

6. Sample is pre-examined, catalogued and added to the database recording the required specification, type of material and the supporting technical data

7. Sample preparation begins, such as sawing, milling and turning, in order to produce the necessary test piece(s) to perform the tests

8. Test piece is inspected before testing begins for quality control purposes

9. Testing commences in accordance with the relevant specification and data is recorded noting the upper and lower limits of the specification

10. Provisional (i.e. unconfirmed and uncertified) test results are available in-house

11. Results are reconfirmed by the operator. Operator advises whether the sample has met or failed the required specification. In the case of failure, a retest may be performed after consultation with the customer.

12. Test report is produced (e.g. UKAS test certificate) comparing the specification limits with the actual test data and indicating compliances where necessary

13. Results are reconfirmed and signed by a senior metallurgist, authorising the test report to be issued to the customer via email, fax or post as required

14. Sample, or the remaining parts of the sample, is returned to the customer via courier, or;

15. Sample is retained for thirty days prior to commercial disposal

Please note that this process may vary considerably depending on the nature of the required tests
